Jeanette’s work is all hand formed from stoneware clay which is fired to 1300c in a gas kiln. The finely detailed baskets are based on the kete, which are traditionally woven by Maori women from the flax plant, harekeke, and used as carrying baskets. After firing the clay baskets are decorated with shells, paua, greenstone and feathers before being framed.
Jeanette shares her workspace with her husband Peter Shearer whose ceramic ware is also listed on this site.
